Leading Independent Software Makers Team to Offer Seamless Solution for Photographers
Integration of Presentation and Workflow Software Streamlines Professional Studio Operations
Two leading software makers in the photography industry are seamlessly integrating their individual products, bringing together award winning sales, presentation and business management. The result is a new, robust solution for workflow and operational efficiencies in professional studio management. The announcement came at the start of "Imaging USA 2014," the annual conference and trade show of the Professional Photographers of America.
Two well-respected names in the world of professional photography, TimeExposure, of Perth, Australia, and StudioCloud International Inc., of Orem, Utah, are introducing the new solution. TimeExposure is the manufacturer of ProSelect and ProSelect Pro, the leading cross-platform presentation, sales and workflow software packages for professional portrait studios. StudioCloud is the maker of award-winning, free studio management software for professional photographers, used by more than 60,000 photographers.
With this integrated approach, photographers will be able to effectively and easily use both software suites, together, to run their entire studio operation. For example, photographers will be able to seamlessly move and update sales data from ProSelect to StudioCloud, attach StudioCloud clients to ProSelect orders, link product items between the two programs, and connect ProSelect Albums to specific StudioCloud events.
"We are excited about the integration of ProSelect with StudioCloud. Our respective clients have been asking for such a solution. The pro photography industry, as a whole, will benefit now that the best studio presentation and sales software integrates with the best studio management software - creating a unique, total studio solution," said Peter Howlett, Managing Director of TimeExposure.
"With this new integration, all of StudioCloud's users will have the ability to experience the seamless integration with TimeExposure's award-winning sales and presentation software. We expect this seamless integration to revolutionize the photography studio and set a new standard for efficiency in the photography industry. We couldn't be more excited." said Trent Weber, president of StudioCloud.
The seamless integration is available in ProSelect v2014 and in all versions of StudioCloud.

World Photographic Cup Presentation at Imaging USA
Photographers from across the globe set to vie for new gold standard
For years, master photographers from sea to sea have dreamt of a way to bring the global photographic industry together and determine the best of the best. Their dream has become a reality with the formation of the World Photographic Cup (WPC).
For the first time ever, countries will unite as teams to see what nation produces the best images in the world. The WPC is a competition for teams of photographers representing their home countries.
The WPC was founded as a cooperative effort by The Federation of European Photographers (FEP) and Professional Photographers of America (PPA). Its singular goal is to unite photographers in a spirit of friendship and cooperation.
"The World Photographic Cup has been a long time coming," said Ralph Romaguera, M.Photog.Cr., CPP, API,F-ASP, president of PPA's board of directors. "We're really excited to bring the world's best photographers together for a friendly competition. PPA is honored to represent team USA and we hope this opportunity will push PPA members and photographers across the globe to be more."
Each country may be represented by only one team, which generally will be created by a national association made up of professional photographers. Each team will pick its own individuals and images to enter.
Teams may submit up to three images in each of six categories: Portrait, Wedding, Commercial (including advertising, architecture, industrial, fashion), Illustrative/Digital art, Reportage/Photojournalistic and Landscape. Teams may choose to enter the images of a single photographer in multiple categories. However, no single photographer may have multiple images entered into a single category.
Gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded to the individual creator in each category. Teams are awarded points for each medal they receive (five for gold, three for silver, two for bronze). The team with the most points at the end of the competition judging will receive the World Photographic Cup.
Online judging for this year's WPC opens November 1 and closes November 15. Images will be judged by a panel of 15 jurors from around the world, selected based on their photographic technique, experience and previous training as a photographic judge. The World Photographic Cup and the 18 medal winners will be presented at Imaging USA in Phoenix, Ariz. in January 2014.
With the call for entries going worldwide, 19 countries have already entered, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Norway, Pakistan, Slovakia, Spain, Ukraine, the U.K. and the U.S. Entries for team USA were chosen at the International Photographic Competition (IPC) last month in Atlanta. To be considered for entry to next year's World Photographic Cup, U.S. photographers must first enter their images into the IPC.
The WPC organizing body is made up of photographers from across Europe, the United States, and Canada. The body is composed of six members, including three selected by each of the founding member associations. PPA is represented by Dennis Craft, M.Photog.Hon.M.Photog.Cr., CPP, API, F-ASP, Don Dickson, M.Photog.Hon.M.Photog.Cr., CPP and Don MacGregor, M.Photog.Cr., API. Giusseppe Scozzi, CEO of FEP has been named to the same position for the WPC.
For more information on the World Photographic Cup, visit worldphotographiccup.org.
Professional Photographers of America (PPA) is the largest international non-profit association created by professional photographers, for professional photographers. Almost as long-lived as photography itself, PPA has roots back to 1869. It has never stopped growing and looking for new ways to assist its now 26,000 members through protection, education and resources for their continued success in the industry. See why photographers love PPA at www.ppa.com.

The 2014 edition of the Imaging USA app has hit the shelves of the app stores
(quick, download it now--this overview will make a lot more sense!)
There are plenty of amazing features on this year's app--from planning your Imaging USA Expo strategy before the show to selecting your top classes day by day. There's even a feature to connect you with other fellow attendees before the show. It couldn't be easier to make new friends at Imaging USA!
Once you download the app, you'll see the main nine icons:
This is where you'll find all of the vendors at the Imaging USA Expo in alphabetical order or by categories. Want to favorite an exhibitor? Open their listing and click the star at the bottom, or if you'd like to make a note on their listing, like what products to talk to them about, click the notes button in the middle. These notes will be saved in two places: on the Exhibitor Details page and in the "My Event" tab (we'll get to that). If you found something your friends might like, you can even tell them about the listing with the share button.
Search classes by date and time or by class track! Create your personal schedule by clicking the star button for the classes you'd like to attend (located in the session details screen). You can also find speaker bios and social media information so you can connect with our speakers before (or after) they take the stage. To access your agenda, simply click the star button in the upper right corner of the schedule home screen.
This is where you can search for your top speakers alphabetically. Check out their bios, connect with them on social media and see all of the wonderful sessions they are leading! This is also another way you can add classes to your personal schedule.
Get a bird's eye view of downtown Phoenix in this nifty tab. You'll also find basic convention center information and labeled Light Rail stops and parking decks. We'll soon be adding interactive maps of the convention center as well as the tradeshow floor.
This tab is all about you! It's your quick access to all of those favorites you saved before (like speakers, exhibitors, etc.), allows you quick access to your custom schedule and access to all of your notes. You can also select favorite places you want to visit and easily find your favorite contacts (you'll find those under the "Networking" tab in a moment).
This is also where you sign in to the app! You'll receive your log in credentials by email once you've registered for Imaging USA. (Registered but haven't received them yet? Give our Member Care team a shout at 800-786-6277. They'll get you squared away.)

#IUSA14 Class Tracks: #Hash It Out and Adobe
As we continue counting down the days to Imaging USA 2014, we wanted to share more of the great educational opportunities available to photographers at the convention.
We've already talked about the Wedding
and School, Sport and Event
educational tracks, so be sure to go and check those out if this is your photographic specialty, or if you want to enter these markets! Also, the Imaging USA schedule
page is sortable by track, so go there to find all the classes you want to attend.
Now, the next types of IUSA classes we wanted to share are the #Hash It Out sessions. These
sessions are different, in the sense that they are interactive and will need your active participation.
These daily sessions are interactive smart talks that will explore new ideas, from pro photographer to pro photographer. It's a photography business Q & A with a group twist. Our moderators will propose discussion ideas that you'll talk over with a small group of photographers and then share with the session as a whole.
The really cool part about the #Hash It Out sessions are that you'll be able to tweet or text questions and ideas to the moderators and your peers and get advice on the spot.
#Hash It Out sessions will be held twice a day January 12-13 with an additional session on January 14. Check the schedule page for times
, and be sure to bring your ideas and questions!
So, now that we've talked about the #Hash It Out sessions, let's dive into another type of track you'll find at IUSA, the Adobe class track.
In today's photography world, it seems that nearly all photographers use at least one of Adobe's software products at some point during their workflow. Whether you use Photoshop or Lightroom, wouldn't it be nice to be able to be more efficient with this software? After all, photographers all want to be out there taking photos, not sitting behind a computer! The classes in the Adobe class track are all designed to show you how you can use this software more efficiently and improve your images at the same time.
It all begins bright and early on January 13 with Jared Platt's "Post-Production Speed in Lightroom 5 and Photoshop"
class. Whether you are shooting portraits, editorial or weddings, you spend a lot of time behind the camera, only to be followed by even more time behind the computer. Join Jared as he demonstrates lightning-fast and effective strategies for using Lightroom and Photoshop to make short work of the overwhelming task of post-production. Jared will also demonstrate some of the powerful new features in Lightroom 5.
Following Platt's class, Photoshop expert Dave Cross will show you how to handle flaws in images with Photoshop in "Quick Photoshop Fixes for Common Problems"
. Dave will show you how to use Photoshop to correct errors like sensor dust on an image, glare on glasses, harsh shadows and much more.
Later that day, you can learn more about improving your workflow in "Lightroom and Photoshop - New Techniques for a Winning Workflow"
with Julieanne Kost. In Lightroom 5, Julieanne will show you how to best manage your files, make enhancements to images to define your personal style and handoff those files quickly for print, web and social media. In the Photoshop portion of the class, she'll demonstrate not only the new features including improved sharpening, resizing and lens correction, she will also reveal more precise methods for removing distracting items in images and demonstrate advanced masking and layering techniques.
Julieanne will also continue the Adobe track on January 14. "Photoshop and Beyond!"
will show you Adobe tools that take you further than just Lightroom and Photoshop. She'll demonstrate how easy it is to showcase your projects or post your entire portfolio on Behance, sharing files with clients using Creative Cloud, creating slideshows using Premiere, creating one-click color profiles using SpeedGrade and even how to publish your own iPad app or book using InDesign!
If you shoot video (or want to), the Adobe track has something for you as well. In "DSLR Video for Photographers with Photoshop"
, Colin Smith will show you how you can use Photoshop to edit HDSLR footage and effortlessly create a stunning short film and create customized slideshows, complete with music and title graphics.
This Adobe track is a great option for photographers looking to use this software at an expert level.
Stay tuned to the PPA blog for more details on upcoming Imaging USA class tracks, events and much more! If you haven't registered for Imaging USA,
make sure you do by December 4th to get the best rate.

Go Green at Imaging USA
The eco-friendly Phoenix Convention Center has such a green approach that it inspired us at PPA to reduce our footprint on the environment as much as possible this year.
Since we're bringing 10,000+ of you photographers along to Phoenix, we want to leave as little a carbon footprint as possible, and it's only if everyone pitches in that we'll make a difference.
Here's how the convention center has set the positive precedent:
- A longstanding recycling program (more than 460 tons last year alone)
- Green purchasing (including chairs made from recycled car battery casings and seatbelts)
- Use of sustainable construction materials
- Environmental-conscious technology
- Energy and water efficiency
- Solar power
- Food and beverage recycling and waste prevention (every day all unsold perishables are donated to local shelters)
And there's a lot more! If you want to dive in, you can find out about all the sustainability initiatives from Phoenix Convention Center here.
What's PPA doing to help? A lot! This year the badges, badge holders, ribbons and show bags are all made from recycled materials. Also, all of the foam core signs are biodegradable.
And you can do your part too! Here's how:
- Riding the Light Rail will reduce your carbon footprint. It's super convenient, quiet, easy to figure out and all the host hotels for Imaging USA are in short walking distance from the convention center!
- Bring your own water bottle – reduce and reuse! You'll help take harmful materials out of the equation by bringing your own, reusable water bottle. A little thing that goes a long way.
- Save paper and use the Imaging USA mobile application! For the schedules, for the evaluations form, so take notes… you can help reduce the ton (literally!) of paper that your conference requires, as people don’t always leverage their smartphones or tablets.
Be part of something bigger with us and help make a difference!

Ride the Rail in Phoenix
If you need an easy, economical way to get from Sky Harbor Airport to downtown Phoenix, and even around the city while you're there, consider the METRO Light Rail. For just $2 a ride, you can get to within walking distance of pretty much anywhere in Phoenix.
Heading to Phoenix for Imaging USA? Let's talk about how to get around town.
If you need an easy, economical way to get from Sky Harbor Airport to downtown Phoenix, and even around the city while you're there, consider the METRO Light Rail. For just $2 a ride, you can get to within walking distance of pretty much anywhere in Phoenix.
The Phoenix Convention Center has provided this handy Transportation Guide to help you get from the airport to the convention center. Looks pretty easy, doesn't it? Also check out the Imaging USA map that gives you step-by-step information for getting from the airport to the station, to the hotels.
Also, the easy-to-navigate Valley Metro website will answer any of the questions you may have regarding locations, frequency and cost. But we can do the last—$2 a ride, no matter your destination! You can even get a $4 day pass if you plan on riding more than twice, talk about value! If that doesn't convince you, remember that the City of Phoenix controls the rates of all the parking decks in the Downtown area. When a large conference like Imaging USA comes to town, they generally increase them to $20+ per day, with no in and out privileges.
Wherever you need to go, try planning your trip on Valley Metro's website and see if the Light Rail is the best option. They offer a "Transit Trip Planner" feature, so you can map out the train schedules and getting to where you need to go.
Renting a car can be expensive, and might not even be necessary in Phoenix. Plus, trying to drive around in a new city is just a flat-out pain in the butt. Make sure you give the Light Rail consideration when looking into your transportation options. Just look at those reviews on Yelp!
Check out all of your transportation options (and hotels too) in the Imaging USA travel page.
Ride the Rail!
The last time Imaging USA was in Phoenix in 2009, Improv Everywhere hosted their first Light Rail No Pants Ride. Rumor has is that the 2014 version will be the Sunday of Imaging USA! So look out for casual, pantless Light Rail riders, don't be scared, and if you're brave, join in! An official announcement of the date should come in December, so we'll make sure to share it with everyone.
