He will specifically address how upgrading from traditional advertising and the use of DSLR equipment to social media advertising and mirrorless cameras has helped them stay ahead of the competition and continue to grow their business.

You Can’t Eat Likes: Maintaining a Fulfilling Business in the Instagram Age

GWCC, Room A313/A314

The wedding market is in the midst of the next big upheaval. In the past, most of these were due to new technology — the move from larger formats to 35mm journalism, the move toward digital, and the proliferation of online marketing. All of these opened the market for new photographers to step in, but they also left a lot of existing photographers behind. Now we may be in the middle of the biggest shift of all. Most of the photographs taken in history were taken in the past few years. Everyone is a photographer. Teenagers taking artless selfies have orders of magnitude and more internet followers than any wedding photographer ever will.

How do we not get left behind in this new age? How do we adapt to it without getting caught in fads that either don't serve our clients well in the long-term or don't effectively lead to new clients at all? Wedding photographer Ryan Brenizer will share the hard-won lessons he has learned to create a long-term successful wedding business and how it has led to more than 500 satisfied wedding clients. He will discuss how we find the balance between creating the sort of images that keep us motivated, function in the new world where everyone is a publisher, and serve our clients as well as we can to create a self-sustaining referral network. No one knows everything about what's coming next, and there is no one way to run a business or create an artistic aesthetic, but the right strategies can give us an advantage in the years to come.
