Meet Bryan Blanken
Bryan is a multi-talented wedding and portrait photographer with over 20 years of experience. While attending the University of Maryland, he learned the art of photography in the family business. He quickly became very accomplished and joined Freed Photography as a partner in 2001.
Clients love working with Bryan for his laid-back nature and fantastic sense of humor, as well as his striking good looks (Bryan added that). He loves photographing people. Whether it is an 8-year-old for a school portrait or a bride on her wedding day, his ability to relate to the person, put them at ease, and make them look their best is second to none. They also appreciate his integrity for the timeline and knowing how to work an event.
Bryan, along with his partners Neal and Carla Freed, has developed a new approach to school portraits, emphasizing that “just because they have been doing it one way for forever, doesn’t mean it’s good,” Bryan says. School photography is now an integral part of their business. Their motto is to have fun, take beautiful images, and do the right thing.
Meet Neal Freed
Neal Freed learned photography while in college, a million years ago, at the Fred Marcus Studio in New York. As Neal says, assisting for Andy Marcus was the best training anyone could ever have, if you could survive it. After a couple of years assisting, Neal became a primary photographer for Fred Marcus. While his future looked bright at Fred Marcus, alas, Neal married Carla and moved to the Washington, DC, area. Neal gave up photography for 25 years as he and Carla owned and operated a number of businesses. In 2000, after selling their last business, Neal and Carla decided to open a small, boutique studio. Not having spent the prior 20 years as photographers, they brought a fresh perspective to the business of photography. Much to the dismay of the established players in the school photography market, they are bringing that same fresh perspective to school photography and are having tremendous success redefining how to do school photography.
